Fox Valley Week 5: Jacobs aims to continue streak against Dundee-Crown

Jacobs (4-0, 0-0) at Dundee-Crown (0-4, 0-0)

Game time: 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Last week: Jacobs 42, Grayslake Central 0; Prairie Ridge 48, Dundee-Crown 24

Last year: Jacobs 56, Dundee-Crown 16

Outlook: The D-C Bowl should be rocking as District 300 rivals square off on homecoming night in Carpentersville. Dundee-Crown ruled this series between 1984 and 1998, winning 14 of 15, but of late Jacobs has dominated this series to such a degree that D-C coach Mike Steinhaus said this week of the rivalry: “It's not what it once was. We have to start winning some games.” Jacobs has won 12 straight against the Chargers to tie the all-time series 16-16. The Chargers suffered costly defensive breakdowns on five plays last week against Prairie Ridge. If such mistakes can be eliminated, D-C thinks it can be competitive. “We might not have the record, but we're a confident bunch,” Steinhaus said. “We just have to play the way we know we can play.” Jacobs coach Bill Mitz has downplayed the rivalry in recent years but said this week “I'm starting to get it. A lot of our guys know a lot of their guys from middle school so it's bragging rights. Hey, we're their homecoming guests; maybe we should show up in suits and ties.”

Next week: Jacobs at Huntley (4-0); Dundee-Crown at Crystal Lake South (3-1)

Urbana (1-3) at Hampshire (2-2)

Game time: 7 p.m. Friday

Outlook: Hampshire quarterback Jake Vincent has been productive since transferring from Marian Central to his hometown team. Running the spread offense, the junior has completed 86 of 146 passes for an area-best 1,127 yards and 9 touchdowns against 7 interceptions.

McHenry (1-3, 0-0) at Crystal Lake South (3-1, 0-0)

Game time: 7:15 p.m. Friday

The quick hit: These teams have played a common opponent: Marian Central. The Gators lost to the Hurricanes 21-14 in Week 1; McHenry lost 28-18 in Week 2. Junior quarterback Luke Nolan has completed 32 of 60 passes for 451 yards and 4 touchdowns with 1 interception for the Gators.

Woodstock (1-3, 0-2) at Grayslake Central (0-4, 0-2)

When: 7:15 p.m., Friday

Last week: Woodstock lost to McHenry, 31-24; Grayslake Central lost to Jacobs, 42-0.

Outlook: It's homecoming for the Rams, who have been shut out twice and allowed 40 or more points in each of their four losses. Woodstock, which won just once last season, opened its 2015 season with a 37-3 win over Round Lake but has since then lost three straight. Blue Streaks running back Jacob Sumner scored 2 touchdowns against McHenry last weekend but left the game in the third quarter with an injury and did not return.

Grayslake North (2-2, 1-0) at Prairie Ridge (3-1, 2-0)

When: 7:15 p.m., Friday

Last week: Grayslake North lost to Normal Community West, 59-54; Prairie Ridge def. Dundee-Crown, 48-24.

Outlook: The Knights hit the road trying to snap a two-game losing streak. Grayslake North running back Dami Oladunmoye rushed 45 times for 252 yards and 4 touchdowns at Normal West, which scored the winning TD with 11 seconds left. Prairie Ridge won its third game in a row last weekend, after opening the season with a 21-14 loss to Cary-Grove. Quarterback Samson Evans operates the Wolves' triple-option offense. He rushed 13 times for 185 yards and 3 TDs against Dundee-Crown last weekend.
