Pair accused of fake hold up of Elmhurst gas station

An Elmhurst gas station attendant and her boyfriend are being held in DuPage County jail after prosecutors said they staged a phony armed robbery and abduction there.

Simone Boyd, 21, of 1157 S Luther in Lombard is charged with theft and is being held on $100,000 bail. Her boyfriend, Brandon Morris, 21, of Broadview, was charged with theft and attempted armed robbery. His bail was set at $200,000.

Prosecutors said Boyd was working the overnight shift at the Shell gas station at 654 W. North Ave., early Tuesday morning when Morris stormed in, jumped over the counter and took money from the cash register.

According to a written statement issued by Elmhurst police, surveillance video showed Boyd leaving with Morris in an attempt to make it look lke an abduction and robbery.

Police were called to check on Boyd at about 5 a.m. Tuesday but she was not there when police arrived.

Police said both suspects were located in Cook County, along with the money they are alleged to have stolen.

Both Morris and Boyd are next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 19. in courtroom 4014.
