Music notes: Apple Fest brings a bushel of local bands

<h3 class="briefHead">Juicy lineup</h3>

Long Grove's annual fest of all things apple is packing a few musical treats as well. On Friday, Trippin' Billies takes the Main Stage evening slot from 8 to 10 p.m., with an afternoon of music featuring classic rock cover band 97Nine, 2014's Suburban Chicago's Got Talent winner Dennis Caravello, alternative rock's David Paige Band and the R&B grooves of the Aryk Crowder Duo. Saturday's Main Stage lineup includes acoustic covers by Acoustic Alibi, pop classics by the Sam Fazio Trio, Tom Petty and Johnny Cash-inspired PettyCash and '80s tribute band Infinity, leading up to the Lucky Boys Confusion in the headlining slot from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Indy singer-songwriter Kevin Mileski leads off Sunday, followed by vintage rockers Rosie & The Rivets and the hard-rocking Gingers. Country rocking Suburban Cowboys headline the day from 5 to 7 p.m. Grab a caramel apple and wander over to the Mill Pond Stage, where a lineup full of local talent will play throughout the weekend, including sets by John Till, Brent Brown and Ryan Budyak. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Downtown Long Grove's 23rd Annual Apple Fest, Old McHenry and Robert Parker Coffin roads. $5 ($8 between 6 and 10 p.m. Saturday); free for kids age 12 and under; visitlonggrove.com.

<h3 class="briefHead">Bedtime stories</h3>

Releasing a new album is hard enough work. Now tie each song to the main character in one of 10 interwoven stories featured in a book, which you've also written. That's exactly what indy folk singer-author David Berkeley did. Berkeley will play Chicago's Schuba's in support of his newest artistic endeavor - the book "The Free Brontosaurus" and the accompanying album "Cardboard Boat" - both to be released Friday, Sept. 25. 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Schuba's, 3159 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. $15, $18 at the door; (773) 525-2508, lh-st.com or davidberkeley.com.
