Ccu hosts free identity theft seminar

New technological advances are made with each passing day, and as technology develops, sending personal information with the press of a button has become much more simplified.

In today's modern world, bills are paid electronically and substantial purchases can be made with a swipe of a card. With each new innovation, it is critical we recognize the dangers that may accompany these conveniences. Consumers Credit Union is hosting a free seminar, "Identity Theft," to help with the protection of your personal information.

"In today's digital age, protecting your personal information is a must," said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU President and CEO. "With the technology available to us today, it is critical that we remain vigilant for those that use these advances to tarnish another's financial reputation. Our 'Identity Theft' workshop offers time-tested safeguards to thwart identity theft and the damage it can do to your credit, your reputation and your life."

The no-cost workshop is led by Tricia Drexel of Balance Financial Fitness. As a Partner Relations Manager, Tricia has an extensive history of working with families and individuals to help them create a better financial future. She'll provide attendees with answers to questions on how your identity can be stolen, what criminals do with your information once they have it, and tips for preventing identity theft. Additionally, the workshop will also discuss methods on how to recover from theft of your identity, as well.

"Identity Theft" is presented by Consumers Credit Union in cooperation with Balance Financial Fitness and sponsored by Consumers Cooperative Association, the credit union's sponsor. Both CCU Members and the public at large are invited to attend this no-cost workshop.

Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the seminar at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, Holiday Inn, 6161 W. Grand Ave, Gurnee. RSVP to Cedric Ivy, at CedricI@myconsumers.org or (847) 265-5541.
