'Fallapalooz-ers' flock to new Heritage Park in Wheeling for community fun

"What a great day for everyone," Jan Buchs, Executive Director of Wheeling Park District, shared with fellow Fallapalooz-ers. "It's great to see so many here, with friends, neighbors and their families."

The "here" is Heritage Park (its grand opening held in June), the perfect backdrop and new location for the recent Fallapalooza, a long-running, free, community-wide event for Wheeling Park District. Heritage Park's mix of amenities goes beyond what most would think of, being quaintly tucked away off of Dundee Road. Not to mention the 100 acres of pristine space that includes engineering, design and important flood management along portions of the Des Plaines River, Heritage Park also hosts a more recognizable (and sought-after) Sports Complex with multi-use fields for team play, a scenic 10-acre lake, pathways for strolling, native areas, a picnic shelter and open fields, as well as the Performance Pavilion, with summer entertainment and the core of Fallapalooza activities which ranged from live music to hayrides, inflatables, a petting zoo, pony rides, kids' crafts -- you name it, it was pretty much going on at Fallapalooza.

Hosting events like Fallapalooza is important to Wheeling Park District. "Our mission is to provide memorable experiences in parks and recreation that enrich our communities. Connecting with our guests and providing ways to enjoy the many parks, facilities, and programs, is what we're here for. Fallapalooza is one of many ways to do that -- and a lot of fun, too."
