Winfield man charged with child porn possession

A 27-year-old Winfield man is being held on $30,000 bail after being charged with two felony counts of possession of child pornography.

Police arrested Kevin R. Smith, of the 1N600 block of Fisher Lane, on Friday after an undercover investigation by the Wheaton Police Department, officials said.

The computer forensic unit for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Illinois Attorney General's office assisted in the investigation.

Smith will be restricted from possessing any computer, laptop or handheld device that connects to the Internet if he is released on bond, according to court records. He also would also be banned from having contact with any children age 18 and younger.

Smith's next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday.
