Norenberg off to England

Former Fremd standout soccer goalkeeper Allison Norenberg has been awarded a graduate assistantship to be the goalkeeping coach for Durham University in England.

She will be working toward a master's degree in world and public health policy. As part of the agreement, she will also play for Durham's top team (the university has three).

Norenberg was a three-year starter for the Vikings, compiling 33 shutouts. She was also a critical part of the team's run to a state runner-up finish in 2009.

Norenberg was an-conference, all- area, all region and all-state honorable mention.

Fremd girls soccer coach Steve Keller called Norenberg one of the best goalkeepers to come through the high school.

"Allison went on to have a stellar career at Miami University in Ohio and now embarks on a great opportunity in England," Keller said. "It is a tribute to Allison's talents and work ethic that she gets to continue her career and study abroad. Congrats to Allison on this great accomplishment."

Norenberg was a three-year starter for Miami, compiled a record of 39-17-6 while leading the Redhawks to their best season in 2012 with 20 wins, a mid-America Conference regular season and tournament title, and an NCAA tournament upset of 16th-ranked University of Tennessee on their home field in Knoxville.

Norenberg left Miami holding four team records with 23 career shutouts, 11 single-season shutouts, 39 career wins and 20 single-season wins. She was second all time in career saves with 207 and third in career goals-against-average (1.06).

"Allison was an absolute joy during her time here at Miami." said Miami coach Bobby Kramig. "She trained incredibly hard and yet was always fun, positive and a good teammate.

In 33 years of coaching, I don't believe I've had a more dedicated player and one who made such dramatic improvement as Allison. Hers is truly a remarkable story."
