Coroner deserves residents' support

Prior to the changing of the office of coroner nearly four years ago, Kane County residents read headline after headline involving problems with the Kane County Coroner's office and its operations. Whether these problems were perception or reality, it became apparent to those following the matter that the office was in dire need of change.

In 2012, the voters elected a new coroner, Rob Russell. He was elected because he promised to restore respect and integrity to the office that was sorely lacking in both regards. Coroner Russell's patience is constantly tested when situations arise within his office that require assistance from the county board.

Whether it is mold remediation or freezers breaking down, again and again, Mr. Russell is scrutinized by the majority of this board that is ultimately responsible for the necessary funding to ensure that his office is compliant with all state statutes. It is a shame that we as taxpayers must sit and watch the shenanigans from a board that ran on a platform of reform repeatedly "trip" over their own words.

I support Rob Russell and will continue to do so. He has performed his duties above reproach and deserves our support as he continues to bring honesty, integrity and ability to the office of Kane County Coroner.
