NFL Super Bowl campaign honors Batavia High

Batavia High School football players received some extra inspiration Thursday at their weekly team dinner, as former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson bestowed an NFL Golden Football on the school.

The NFL is giving the footballs to all high schools that have produced a player or a head coach who have participated in a Super Bowl, as part of the celebration of the championship's 50th birthday.

Anderson graduated from Batavia in 1967. He then attended Augustana College.

He was a quarterback for the Bengals for 16 years. He led the 1981 Bengals to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers. He was named to four Pro Bowl teams.

After he retired from playing, he worked as a color analyst for football telecasts, then as a quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Bengals, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was with the Steelers for three years, including when they won the Super Bowl in 2009.

On Saturday, Anderson will be inducted to Batavia's new Hall of Honor.
