A month after starting the process to fire embattled school President Robert Breuder, College of DuPage trustees Thursday declared him an "at-will employee" without a contract. Trustees, who have been divided on most matters since a new majority won election in April, voted 4-3 on Thursday night to void Breuder's original employment contract, agreed upon in 2008, and all subsequent contract extensions and addendums - including a controversial $763,000 severance package approved in January by a previous board. "This vote is what reform is all about," board Chairwoman Kathy Hamilton said. Full story.

Murder conviction overturned in Johnsburg case

Suspect in Barrington High threats remains jailed

An Elgin man who authorities say threatened to kill students at Barrington High School will remain in the Lake County jail on $100,000 bail until he undergoes a mental health evaluation, a judge ruled Thursday. Judge Christen Bishop told Tyler Bosworth it would be best if he remained in jail and on medication until he receives a mental health screening. Full story.

Autopsy today on body found along I-88 in Aurora

The Kane County coroner's office will perform an autopsy today on a body found Thursday along I-88. Aurora police said the work crew was mowing grass in the area and discovered an abandoned car about 1:35 p.m. in a heavily wooded area. A woman's body was found about 200 yards west of the vehicle. Huge New Year's Eve celebration to debut this year in Chicago

Chicago will have a new way to ring in 2016. A large-scale New Year's Eve celebration featuring fireworks, music and other attractions will be held downtown. Unlike the ball drop in New York City, Chicago's countdown to midnight will feature a giant six-pointed Chicago star rising 36 stories up the West Tower of the Hyatt Regency Chicago building as fireworks explode all around. Delle Donne, Sky win playoff opener

League MVP Elena Delle Donne struggled occasionally to find her shot Thursday, hitting just 5-of-15 from the field, but the Sky downed Indiana in Game 1 of the best-of-three Eastern Conference semifinals, 77-72. "We won. That's all that matters," Delle Donne said Thursday night at the UIC Pavilion. "If I have zero points, zero rebounds and we come out with a 'W," that's all I care about." Cubs back home after successful road trip

The Cubs were entitled to a little fist-bumping and chest-thumping after Thursday's 9-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. After all, they took three of four games from the Pirates and closed to within 2 games of the Bucs for the top wild-card spot in the National League. Day going for 59 at BMW
