On the Fringe

Experience experimental performances of all kinds when the Elgin Fringe Festival returns for its second year. More than 100 music, theater and visual arts performances are on tap at a variety of locations throughout Elgin. See elginfringefestival.com for locations and times. $3 initial Fringe Festival button purchase, and then individual shows are $5, $10 or free; $50 all-access pass. Oktoberfest

Enjoy German music, food, beer and more during the Palatine Rotary Club's Eighth Annual Oktoberfest on the corner of Smith and Slade streets in downtown Palatine. Family Day activities, which run from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, include a bike ride, games, a soccer wall and more.
