Wheeling Historical Society to Host Beer and Brat Fest on Sept. 27

In a series of events held to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Wheeling Historical Society is hosting a Beer and Brat Fest on Sunday, September 27, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Heritage Park, which is located on West Dundee Road between Wolf Road and Northgate Parkway.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase, including German style bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, soft pretzels, and plum and apple cake. Drinks will include both beer and wine as well as soft drinks, coffee, and water. Entertainment will be provided by the Hirsch Band, playing German Austrian music.

The finale of the 50th year celebration festivities will take place during the Society's annual Lollipop Lane from Dec. 5 - 13.

The Wheeling Historical Society was incorporated in 1965, with an overall goal of historic preservation. Founding members included Marshall G. Balling, Dorothy Forke, Shirley Koeppen, Lucille Schneider, Ruth E. Wieder, Hazel Willis and Merle Willis. One of the Society's first accomplishments was saving the 1894 Village Hall building from demolition. It now stands on Wheeling's mini-campus of museum buildings in Chamber Park at 251 North Wolf Road. The Society meets monthly in the Community Church near the Museum, which is open on Sunday afternoons from 2 - 4 p.m.
