Schaumburg steps up against Fremd

Schaumburg's girls volleyball team improved to 6-5 and 2-1 in the Mid-Suburban West with a 25-18, 25-23 victory over visiting Fremd on Tuesday night.

Leading the Saxons on attack were Abbie Rahn (9 kills), Mallory Gerber (8) and Morgan Sterrett (4).

Lexi Ross served 2 aces and had 3 blocks for Schaumburg while Lauren LaVigne collected 16 digs and Rahn 7.

Christina Candotti handed out 11 assists and Jessica Hartzman had 6.

Ysabel Lee led Fremd (7-5, 0-3) with 7 kills while teammates Hope Yates and Becca Stapleton each added 3.

Yates, Karolina Sas and Natalie Freund each had an ace.

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: Host Palatine (8-2, 3-0) moved back into a share of first place with Barrington in the MSL West by posting a 25-14, 25-11 triumph.

Leading the Pirates on attack were Heather Holz (7 kills), Krista Anderson, Brooke Bauer (4) and Sydney Christiansen (3), who also handed out 12 assists. Holz had 3 aces and Alexis Serna had 2.

Hanna Saurbier had 3 kills lead Hoffman Estates (0-9, 0-3).

Hersey d. Buffalo Grove: Hersey's 25-18, 25-18 win over host Buffalo Grove (2-9, 0-3) was its 21st straight in the MSL East.

The Huskies (7-4, 3-0) were led on attack by Liz Fuerst (8 kills), Amy Morgan (6) and Zoe Strozewski (3) and Katie Rozanski (3) while Emma Strozewski had 10 assists and Maggie Reisel 7.

Emma Frankiewicz collected a team-high 15 digs while Zoe Strozewski led Hersey with 3 blocks.

Wheeling at Prospect: The MSL East match was postponed due to a power outage.

St. Viator d. Vernon Hills: In the 'Volley for a Cure' match, visiting St. Viator posted a 25-13, 25-15 and improved 10-7 with the nonconference win.

Alyssa Forbes led Viator with 7 kills, followed by Carrie Leazer (4 kills), Danielle Latzera (2) and Emily Hayes (2).

Katie Kerrigan had 2 blocks while Michaela Mueller was 40-of-42 setting with 11 assists. Ellie Meyer collected 10 digs.

Kendall Claffey was 10-of-11 serving for the winners with 2 aces.

Maine West d. Niles North: Maine West improved to 5-7 and 2-0 in the Central Suburban North with a 25-20, 25-19 victory in Skokie.

Allison Grzebien led the Warriors with 8 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces and 2 blocks.

Northland Royals d. Westlake Christian: The Royals improved to 6-1 with a 25-19, 25-27, 28- 26 triumph in the Home School League.

Lizzy Kiernicki (18 assists, 3 aces), Lydia Schiller (4 kills) Carissa Kern (3 kills, 5 aces), Lea Hines (4 kills, 3 aces), Anais Deac (4 kills) and Emily Baldwin (11 digs) helped lead the Royals.
