Carmel Catholic outlasts Grant

Grace Butler posted 13 kills, 11 assists and 3 aces, and Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team won a three-set match for the second night in a row, 25-16, 21-25, 25-13 over host Grant in nonconference action Thursday.

Elizabeth Tworek and Allie Wayland added 7 and 5 kills, respectively, for Carmel (9-4). Mamie Kenar dished out 18 assists and had 11 digs and 3 aces, as well, for the Corsairs. Allie Kos and Tworek also served 3 aces, while Giana Moisio registered a team-best 12 digs. Makenzie Feeney chipped in 11 digs, and Taylor Luhr contributed 4 blocks.

Marian Central d. Lakes: The visiting Hurricanes cooled off the Eagles, winning the nonconference match 25-8, 25-16 to improve to 10-1.

Alex Kaufmann had 13 kills for the Hurricanes, while Lauren Hanlon posted 7 kills and 2 blocks.

Lakes fell to 14-3.

Grayslake North d. Woodstock North: Kenndy Krieg and Sidney Lovitsch slammed 5 kills apiece, and Kendall Buchmann added 4 kills, 12 digs and 6 assists, as the host Knights captured a 25-17, 25-11 decision in Fox Valley Fox action.

Grayslake North (8-13, 4-1) also received 8 assists from Maddy Helm and 19 digs from Taylor Johnston.

Crystal Lake Central d. Grayslake Central: Jaqueline Hamrick and Allie Daul each had 3 kills for the host Rams in their 25-15, 25-14 loss in Fox Valley Fox action.

Grayslake Central fell to 8-12 and 1-3 in the division.

St. Viator d. Vernon Hills: The Lions won the Volley for a Cure match 25-13, 25-15 to improve to 10-7.

Jade Goldufsky had 12 digs for Vernon Hills.

Carmel d. Glenbrook North: On Wednesday night, Elizabeth Tworek delivered 10 kills and 4 aces, as the Corsairs outlasted the visiting Spartans 25-22, 20-25, 25-22 in nonconference action.

Carmel (8-4) also received 7 kills from Erin Taylor and six apiece from Grace Butler and Allie Wayland. Butler also had 25 assists and 4 aces. Makenzie Feeney registered 18 digs.

"GBN was a hard-fought win," Carmel coach Dave Pazely said. "They battled all night long defensively and had some great kills from their middles. We made adjustments all night long as needed and even had to switch from a 6-2 to a 5-1 for the third set because of an injury to one of our setters. The girls took the system change in stride and closed out a tight final set for a quality win."
