Relay finish helps Buffalo Grove past Rolling Meadows

Buffalo Grove battled past visiting Rolling Meadows in a 96-89 decision on Thursday in Mid-Suburban League girls swimming.

The Bison used a 1-3 finish in the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, so secure the decision.

Alexa Jedryka, Samantha Swanson, Diana Morosan and Emily Schulstad finished in 3:58.15 to win the event.

Jedryka and Swanson produced 1-2 finishes in both the 100 and 200 freestyles.

Rolling Meadows started the meet in fine shape, after getting a 1-2 placement in the 200 medley relay as Teresa Perille, Jessie Ligenza, Bailey Rowley and Betsy Zanocco won in 2:02.76.

Rowley was also a double individual winner, taking top honors in the 200 IM (2:28.00) and the 100 fly (1:04.84).

Other Mustangs winners included Zanocco in the 50 free (27.47), Victoria Zervos in diving, Perille in the 100 back (1:09.03) and Ligenza in the 100 breast (1:15.69).

BG's Morosan won the 500 free, and the Bison had the winning 200 free relay with Swanson, Jedryka, Katie Wasilewski and Schulstad.

Hersey d. Elk Grove: The Huskies remained unbeaten against MSL foes after a 133-48 victory over the host Grenadiers.

Top performers for Hersey included Sarah Petro, a winner in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke, and Olivia Kusio, tops in the 50 free and 500 free.

The Huskies also got a 1-2 effort in diving from Madeline Bovino (229.50) and Alexandra Heidrich (220.60), a victory from Jane Quinn in the 100 fly and a win from Jenny Lutz in the 200 free.

Elk Grove's standout was senior Sara Lasovska, who won the 200 IM and 100 back.

Fremd d. Hoffman Estates: The host Vikings earned another MSL dual meet win, topping the Hawks 102-65.

Winners for the Vikes included freshmen Lauren Savage in the 200-meter free (2:32.14) and Anna Miller in the 100 free (1:05.69).

Hoffman Estates had strong runner-up 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays from Benita Varanauskaite, Casey Rawlings, Renata Widelak and Ann Cho.

Fremd got a 1-2-3 finish and quality scores in diving from Morgan Faulkner (202.15), Emily Zukowski (199.10) and Carly Goodsite (181.0).
