Meadowview holds summer reader celebration

Submitted by Community Consolidated School District 46

Meadowview School kicked off the 2015-16 school year by holding a Super Summer Reader Celebration for students who completed a summer reading challenge.

Students entering grades 2-4 could choose to complete two reading activities from each row of a bingo sheet, totaling 10 activities by the end of summer. Activities included reading a book by a specific author or about a specific topic, reading to a family member, reading a book from the library or reading something nonfiction.

Students who completed the challenge were invited to participate in the Super Summer Reader Celebration reception Aug. 28 and were also able to be the first students to check out new book selections in the school library.

Sixty-three students participated in this first summer reading program at Meadowview School in Grayslake. Students discussed books they read over the summer and shared their favorite titles. Meadowview reading specialists, assistants, media center staff and Principal Laura Morgan dressed in super hero attire and read stories to the students. Students received a certificate and pencil to commemorate their achievement.

"On Friday, Aug. 28, the students were met at the front of the school by the teachers and staff in their super hero gear," Principal Morgan said. "It was an exciting start to the day."
