'Chip in' to support Oakton scholarships at Rivers Casino

Bet on a good time at the third annual Scholar Chips event, starting at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18, at Rivers Casino, 3000 South River Road, Des Plaines. Even if you don't hit the jackpot, you'll have a great time while making educational dreams come true for deserving students who have the deck stacked against them.

A limited number of tickets are still available for this evening of entertainment, sponsored by Oakton Community College's Educational Foundation. Tickets are $65 by either calling (847) 635-1893 or visiting www.oakton.edu/giving.

The Flat Cats, a Chicago-based band, headlines Scholar Chips. The group plays a range of vintage and modern music rooted in the hottest swinging jazz and blues, contemporary classics, and timeless standards.

In addition, enjoy succulent hors d'oeuvres, a delicious dinner buffet, and an open bar. You could even walk away with a $500 prize by entering the Scholar Chips raffle (winner need not be present at the event and tickets are available online). Attendees must be 21 years or older. Last year's event raised more than $15,000 for student scholarships.

"Scholar Chips provides the Oakton community with a wonderful occasion to get together in camaraderie and philanthropy," said Joi Smith, president of Oakton Community College. "Numerous well-deserving students are impacted by the generosity of donors, alumni, and employees who support this event year after year. We are especially grateful for our ongoing partnership with Rivers Casino for a lively evening that has the potential to change students' lives."

Special thanks to the event's Royal Flush sponsors AON, John Crane Inc., and Robbins Schwartz. Other sponsors include: First Bank of Highland Park, Fisher Container Corporation, Sikich LLP, and North Shore Community Bank.
