Hinsdale South lockdown lifted as police investigate gunshot

Hinsdale South High School dismissed class on its regular schedule Tuesday after taking precautions to keep students inside the building for more than 2½ hours at the direction of Willowbrook police, who were investigating a nearby report of a gunshot.

Hinsdale High School District 86 spokeswoman Karen Warner said police directed officials at the Darien school to prohibit anyone from entering or leaving the building from about 11:30 a.m. until 2:05 p.m.

Police said they responded at 10:52 a.m. for a report of a possible gunshot on the 7400 block of Tennessee Drive, directly adjacent the school's football field. Officers discovered a patio window at the Willowbrook Apartments was damaged by a bullet. No one was at home and there were no injuries.

Police said there was no threat to the public.
