One firefighter injured in house fire near Lombard

A firefighter suffered a minor burn while battling a house fire Tuesday morning near Lombard, officials said.

A neighbor called 911 around 7:47 a.m. to report smoke coming from the front of the house on the 2S100 block of Colonial Lane in an unincorporated area. When crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof and second floor window of the home, Acting Battalion Chief Brian Stuart said.

No one was home at the time. Damage was estimated at more than $120,000.

The injured firefighter was treated and a DuPage County sheriff's deputy was evaluated for minor smoke inhalation. The deputy refused further treatment at the scene.

Lombard firefighters were assisted by crews from the Villa Park, Downers Grove, Oak Brook, Elmhurst and Glen Ellyn fire departments, as well as the Addison, York Center, Glen Side and Lisle/Woodridge fire protection districts.

An investigation continues into the cause of the fire.
