An off-duty Chicago Ridge police officer was killed Sunday in a three-vehicle crash involving a car traveling the wrong way on Interstate 294 near Oak Brook, police said. Steven A. Smith, 27, had been a part-time officer since 2010 and a full-time officer since February. Full story.

An Aurora man died after falling off a ladder Saturday at a Glendale Heights home, officials said. Jaroslaw Michalak, 51, had been helping a family member with repairs to a home in the 600 block of Nolan Avenue. Full story.

South Elgin karaoke brawl lawsuit settled for $35,000

A woman who sued a South Elgin bar for injuries suffered in a 2011 karaoke brawl has settled her case for $35,000, according to Kane County court records. Tami Hall, of Port Ludlow, Washington, sued Kim Nelson, the owner of the now-shuttered Last Shot Bar and Grill for negligence in September 2013, seeking unspecified damages. Hall argued in the lawsuit that Nelson was negligent in hiring a bouncer with a criminal record. According to the lawsuit, the bouncer threw a stool that struck Hall, who was in town visiting relatives. Full story.

One injured in I-90 rollover crash near Des Plaines

A woman was injured Sunday in a single-vehicle rollover crash on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway near Des Plaines, police said. When officials arrived at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 4:12 p.m. near Wolf Road, a Honda CRV was off the road and in the construction area along the tollway. Full story.

This Bears loss to the Packers felt different
