Man killed in Elgin crash

One person died after a head-on crash in Elgin Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Randall Road and Big Timber Drive, Elgin police said in a news release.

Police believe a 2014 Toyota Corolla was traveling north on Randall Road just south of Big Timber Drive when it crossed over the centerline, striking a 2006 Mercedes E350 that was southbound on Randall Road.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 40-year-old man, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The Toyota's driver, a 61-year-old man, was pronounced dead at Advocate Sherman Hospital. His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives and an autopsy that's planned by the Kane County coroner's office.

Elgin police closed Randall Road for about three hours during the investigation. Anyone with information pertinent to the crash is encouraged to call (847) 289-2661.
