CLC sponsors three events during 'Climate Week'

Climate change and its impacts are the topic of three free events being sponsored Sept. 21-23 by the College of Lake County during Climate Week.

"Our Climate Week programs will highlight events taking place on the national and international stages but will bring the conversation to a local level," CLC Sustainability Manager David Husemoller said.

The events will feature experts from fields such as social sciences, humanities, engineering and theoretical sciences. A question-and-answer session will follow each night's presentations, which will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Grayslake Campus C Wing Auditorium, Room C005, 19351 W. Washington St. Because of construction, enter at the B Wing entrance and park in lots 4 or 5.

On Monday, Sept. 21, the film "Disruption" will be shown, after which Christopher Todd Beer, Ph.D., from the department of sociology at Lake Forest College and Henry Moss of the Citizens' Climate Lobby will share their experiences attending the People's Climate March 2014 and will talk about what is going on this year in Congress and at the United Nations regarding climate change.

Science and Ethics of Climate will be the topic on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Illinois State Climatologist James Angel, Ph.D., will discuss regional impacts of climate change. The Rev. Brian Sauder, executive director of Faith in Place, will talk about ethics of climate and review the Pope's encyclical from an ecumenical perspective.

Climate, Carbon and Careers will be the topic for the presentation Wednesday, Sept. 23. Ronald Meissen, Ph.D., of Baxter Healthcare; Soma Roy of Siemens; and Dave Wilms of C&E Solutions will talk about the growing job opportunities in reducing carbon emissions in their respective industries.

Climate Week events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Husemoller at (847) 543-2643 or dhusemoller@clcillinois.edu.
