Mount Prospect mayor named to Illinois Finance Authority board

Mount Prospect Mayor Arlene Juracek has been appointed to the Illinois Finance Authority board.

Gov. Bruce Rauner Friday named Juracek to the spot, which comes with no salary.

"The Illinois Finance Authority is really like a conduit for folks to get low interest or tax-free loans and to really further economic development and things like senior housing, first-time farmers and hospital financing," Juracek said.

Juracek was first elected mayor in 2013 and has worked as head of the Illinois Power Agency, a small state agency that helps regulate the cost of power ComEd buys for its customers.

On the Finance Authority board, Juracek says she'll decline to vote on matters that affect Mount Prospect directly.

"I think it is going to be a personal growth opportunity for me to learn more about this kind of financing and then see what kind of knowledge I can bring back to the village," she said. "As you know, economic development is one of my big interests. This will be a great learning tool."

Juracek's 3-year term is subject to a confirmation vote by the Illinois Senate.

She also is chairman of the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission, a group focused on mitigating airplane noise in towns surrounding O'Hare International Airport.
