Benet expects tough test from undefeated Notre Dame

Notre Dame (2-0, 0-0) at Benet (2-0, 0-0) East Suburban Catholic Conference

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Benedictine University in Lisle.

Last week: Notre Dame 48, Evanston 21; Benet 41, O'Fallon 3.

Last year: Benet 23, Notre Dame 0.

Outlook: Benet expects a completely different, much-tighter game than last season's shutout win over the Dons, who boast victories over McHenry and Evanston. The Redwings' stingy defense has scored 16 points in two games, including last week's safety and fumble return for a touchdown by safety Alec McEachern. With lineman Trent Kramer and linebackers Charlie Weidenbach and Jeff Marek, Benet has a defense capable of slowing a Dons offense led by Western Illinois-bound dual-threat quarterback Tyler Tsagalis, who last week rushed and threw for more than 100 yards. Notre Dame also has one of the ESCC's top players in defensive back-receiver Tim Simon, who returned a punt for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass. Benet's offense struggled passing the ball last week, but the ground game made up for it. Quarterback Jack Sznajder rushed for a 44-yard touchdown and Marty Dosen ran for 90 yards and a score.

Next week: Marist at Notre Dame; Benet vs. St. Patrick at Hanson Stadium, Chicago.
