Metea Valley will test Naperville Central's secondary

Metea Valley (1-1, 1-1) at Naperville Central (2-0, 2-0)

DuPage Valley Conference

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Last week: Metea Valley 29, Naperville North 28; Naperville Central 14, Neuqua Valley 7.

Last year: Did not play.

Outlook: Metea quarterback Conner Lovely shook off 3 interceptions to lead a 21-point, fourth-quarter comeback for the Mustangs' first DVC win. Lovely threw for 301 yards, Jack Feeley and Brad Fekety combined for 202 yards receiving and Alonzo Taylor ran for 85 yards in his first featured role. Led by defensive end Michael Robinson's 16 tackles, 5 for loss, Metea didn't allow a second-half touchdown. However, 4 turnovers won't get it done against the Redhawks. A cleaner game is the goal. Last week Naperville Central aimed to get the ground game going, and it paid off on the game-winning drive when Luke Brady burst through the line for a 12-yard touchdown run. Balance between the run, with Brady and Jeremiah Wiggins, and the pass, with quarterback Conor Joyce, is again the goal. For a second straight week the Redhawks' secondary will be put to the test. Like last week, a push up front with lineman Joe Gannon and others will be part of the plan to create quarterback pressure.

Next week: Metea Valley at Wheaton North; Naperville Central at Waubonsie Valley.
