Art Affair Around the Square returns to Palatine

Downtown Palatine will host the work of dozens of Midwestern artists this weekend, along with live music, a wine tasting and more, during the Palatine Jaycees' 11th annual juried art fair, An Art Affair Around the Square.

The fest takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, in Towne Square at the corners of Smith Street and Palatine Road.

Artists from all specialties, including water color, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, photography and ceramics, will be represented.

"We are excited by the diversity of artists that have returned to the show this year and are impressed with the new talent participating," said show chairwoman Audrey Doty. "This is a quality, juried art show presented as a celebration of all forms of art, from the traditional to the contemporary."

Among the musicians scheduled to perform Saturday are Cath Kasmer, at noon; Courtney Amanda, at 1 p.m.; Guyz with Bad Eyez, featuring Don Humberston and Merv Collins, at 2 p.m.; and Larry Lebbing, at 4 p.m.

Taking the stage Sunday will be Suzi Schwartz, at noon; Tim Merkel, at 1 p.m.; Pam Kay, at 2 p.m.; The Thompson Duo, at 3 p.m.; and Cheryl Neimo and Pete Jonnson will wrap up the show.

Also Sunday, the Toasty Cheese food truck will be stopping by to offer gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.

The event is one of several the Palatine Jaycees host every year to serve the community. Others include the Fourth of July Hometown Fest, Christmas tree sales and an Easter egg hunt. With close to 100 members, the group is one of the largest Jaycees chapters in Illinois.

The chapter holds its monthly general meeting on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m., at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road in Palatine. For more information, call (847) 604-0288, email info@palatinejaycees.org or visit www.palatinejaycees.org.
