Boys soccer: Huntley, Larkin each win 2
The boys soccer teams from Huntley and Larkin each won twice Saturday on the final day of the Huntley Invitational.
Huntley takes two: The Red Raiders (4-0-1) took a 4-0 Game 1 win over Von Steuben and a 7-0 victory in Game 2 over Goode Academy. Game 1 saw Aryon Shariati collect 1 goal and 2 assists while Michael Zembrzuski, Allesandro Vergara and Aaron Ruffner each found the net. Max Trsinski and Aaron Ruffner each had 1 assist and Michael Parks needed 2 saves for the shutout. Game 2 against Goode was "as good" as it gets. Vergara tallied 1 goal and 1 assist, while Shariati, Zembrzuski, Vergara, Trsinski, Allan Barrientos and Zach Whitaker each scored as well. Jason Zobott dropped 2 assists and Diego Cazares had 1 and Andrew Fulcer got the shutout without any saves.
Ditto for Larkin: The Royals (3-2-2) beat Goode Academy 7-0 and Von Steuben 4-0, and Eric Paniagua, Randy Rodriguez and Alex Ramirez paced Larkin with 2 goals each in Game 1. Ricky Nava also scored and both Diego Ramirez and Sam Renteria, Jr. notched 2 assists. Miguel Sanchez needed just 1 save for the blank. Abel Saenz led the way in Game 2 against Von Steuben with 2 goals while Renteria and Nava added a goal each. Sammy Rodriguez totaled 2 assists and Paniagua collected 1 and Eleno Montes posted 5 saves in net for the shutout.
Bartlett loses in final: After a 1-0 win over Sandburg in a Best of the West semifinal on a Ryan Stratton goal from Igor Zwada, the Hawks (3-2) dropped the championship 1-0 to Naperville North. Keeper Jake Hasenstein finished with 1 save and 7 for the day.
Jacobs 3, Elk Grove 1: The Golden Eagles (4-0) stayed undefeated in nonconference play thanks to Chris Rigby, who tallied 1 goal and 2 assists. Kurtis Preis and Noah Melick also added goals and Ethan Pickering managed 5 saves in net.
Cary-Grove 5, Grant 0: At the Grant Invite, Luis Lemus scored twice and added 1 assist in the Trojans' (1-1) first win of the season. Michael Arenberg added 1 goal and 1 assist while Patrick Kingdom notched 1 goal Riley Conroy and Xavier Nevroski each tallied 1 assist. Trent Onopa and Teddy Price combined for no saves in the shutout.
Dundee-Crown 3, Hoffman Estates 2: The Chargers improved to 4-1-1 in their nonconference home win over the Hawks. Julian Ajroja and Josh Becker posted a goal and an assist each and Freddy Martinez sank a PK. Avery Lovaglia managed 4 saves in net.
CL South 3, Lake Zurich 1: The Gators (2-1-3) took home a fifth-place plaque at the Barrington Classic behind Andrew Grabowski's 1-goal, 1-assist afternoon. Nikolas Getzinger and Mike Woeste added goals and Skyler Pentico garnered 1 assist. Spencer Traub made 5 saves in net.
St. Edward 4, Rockford East 4: AJ Franklin had 2 goals and 1 assist and Alex Semler had 1 goal and 2 assists in a nonconference tie at Greg True Field. Will Gaston also found the net and Alec Uscila had an assist. Goalie Eric Parks nailed down 4 saves in a seesaw battle.
Latin 3, Elgin 2: The Maroons (6-1) suffered their first loss of the year and had to settle for second place at the LaSallian Cup. Manuel Ramirez and Dany Geary registered goals, but the Romans broke a 1-1 tie at the half with 2 second-half goals. Omar Gonzalez had 1 assist while Edgar Rodriguez and Martin Jimenez each had 3 saves in net during their respective halves.
Westminster Christian 4, Cornerstone 1: Will Kmeciak went for 3 goals and 1 assist in the Warriors' (4-3) nonconference win. Will DeHaan had 1 goal and 1 assist while Lee Grasemann chipped in 2 assists. Keeper Ben Versluys managed 3 saves.
