'Uncommon Threads' event returns to St. Charles

Superlative wearable art is the focus of "Uncommon Threads," the annual one-of-a-kind wearable art show and luncheon which brings together textiles and accessories created by local and national artists. This popular event also draws patrons from across the country.

"Every year, for over a decade, I have the third Sunday in October marked on my calendar for the Fine Line Fashion Show," said Soosie Eastman who lives in Louisville, Ky. and Los Angeles, Calif. "The one-of-a-kind wearable art is gorgeous and to see it live in front me makes such a difference. I get to see the art on a variety of models; what a difference that third dimension makes when seeing and buying wearable art. I have traveled from both Kentucky and Los Angeles to this can't-miss event. I always save a little money throughout the year to buy a few pieces in the boutique. I get compliments the whole year on these pieces than can be found nowhere else besides the Fine Line Fashion Show."

The juried runway show is the star of the day. Featuring wearable works of art, all items are also available for purchase that afternoon.

"People who've come for many years, as well as newbies, love the entire day. There's all this wonderful talent and the energy is palpable," said Kay Lange, "Uncommon Threads" artist, runway model and event co-chair. "First the Boutique then the luncheon then the runway show - the energy just keeps building and building. Then people just can't wait to get into the boutique and see the garments up close."

In its 29th year, this event - Fine Line's foremost annual fundraiser - will take place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Q Center, 1405 N. Fifth Ave. (Route 25), St. Charles.

With the beautiful location along the Fox River, Fine Line's director Lynn Caldwell said it's especially significant to hold this event "close to home, as we're a St. Charles business, and we serve the Fox Valley area."

A boutique filled with one-of-a-kind wearable art accessories starts off this daytime event at 10 a.m. A luncheon is served at noon, followed by the runway show at 1 p.m. Shopping in the boutique after the show is truly the icing on the cake.

One-of-a-kind creations are also being raffled off as part of this event. Among the raffle prizes are Fine Line gift certificates, ceramic pieces, jewelry, textiles and more all created and donated by talented artists.

"You have a good reason to get dressed up, you go and have a delicious lunch, watch a unique fashion show, and then have an opportunity to shop. What more could you ask for?" said Carolyn Seng of Chicago.

Tickets for "Uncommon Threads" are $65 per person and are available for purchase at Fine Line, or online, fineline.org/uncommon-threads/.
