Motorcyclists ride to collect food & toys for charity

Motorcyclists get on their bikes and do good for others at the 29th annual DuKane ABATE Toy and Food Run Sunday, Oct. 11.

The Toy and Food Run begins with a motorcycle parade at 12:30 p.m., led by Santa Claus and his helpers, from Knuckleheads Tavern, 108 E. North St. in Elburn, to the Batavia Overseas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1197, 645 S. River St.

Fans and spectators line the route, especially near the departure and arrival points. This is a fully escorted parade, with law enforcement officers from several area communities present to help control traffic as the parade takes place. Governor Bruce Rauner, an avid biker, will ride in the parade.

Once at the Batavia VFW, all are invited to partake in the festivities, which start as early as 10:30 a.m. and go until 6 p.m.

This all-day event benefits 18 local charities, most of which will be on hand that day to greet participants and answer questions. Politicians will be on hand to talk with area motorcyclists.

The day's entertainment features four bands, including headliner the Michael Allman Band. There will be a bike show with prizes, and booths for vendors, crafters and service organizations, as well as food.

Admission to the Toy Run is $10 per person, plus an unwrapped, new toy and a nonperishable food item. For more information, visit www.abate-il.org/dukane.
