Get documents shredded at Sept. 12 Kane County Recycles event

The Kane County Recycles Event will be held 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, behind the Kane County Circuit Clerk's office, 540 S. Randall in St. Charles. This event is for residents only; no businesses.

Recycle electronics like computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions, any size or age, stereos, cellphones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. The electronics will be unloaded for you. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found at www.countyofkane.org.

Books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling will be accepted.

Liquid latex paint is the only item that has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. It is $2 per pint, $3.50 per gallon and $10 per 5-gallon bucket. Latex paint is nontoxic but difficult to dispose of normally because you have to dry it out before placing it in your landfill trash. However, it can be easily recycled into new products with no drying out necessary. No oil-based product will be accepted.

Bring your confidential documents in paper bags or boxes. Limit is four boxes. This is for residents only. No documents from businesses will be accepted. More guidelines can be found at on the Kane County Recycles page at www.countyofkane.org. The next date for document shredding will be Dec. 12.

Hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators will not be accepted.

If you have questions, call Jennifer Jarland, Kane County Recycling Coordinator, at (630) 208-3841, or email to recycle@countyofkane.org.
