St. Charles North (1-0) at Bartlett (0-1)

Upstate Eight crossover

Game time: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Millennium Field in Streamwood

Last week: St. Charles North 30, Schaumburg 15; Conant 25, Bartlett 22

Last meeting: Bartlett 21, St. Charles North 7 (2008)

Outlook: The Hawks seek a victory in their home opener against the North Stars, a team they've faced just twice since St. Charles North joined the Upstate Eight in 2001.

Bartlett won both previous meetings. Last week the North Stars hit Schaumburg with 30 first-half points and held on to win.

Coach Rob Pomazak credited nose guard Quinn Calcagno and 6-foot-4, 295-pound tackle Sam Ambrogio for helping the defense control Schaumburg's front seven.

They'll be called upon once more to limit a Bartlett offense that gained 442 total yards against Conant, 363 via the air. Bartlett quarterback Brenner Wallace completed 28 of 39 attempts for 363 yards and 2 touchdowns and was intercepted once. His top targets were his tight ends: 6-2 senior Ben Johnson (10 rec., 144 yards) and 6-4 senior Jason Hasenberg (7 rec., 93 yards).

Wide receivers Myles Sheehan and Jake Majewski combined for 10 catches for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Nolan Bernat carried 19 times for 70 yards and a score. Still, the Hawks failed to capitalize on a few key drives. "We had some opportunities we didn't take advantage of," Bartlett coach Tom Meaney said. "We had a touchdown called back and we missed a couple of field goals. We had like 100 yards in penalties, which is a killer. We have to cut down on the penalties."
