Elk Grove picks up an MSL victory

Elk Grove's girls swimming team made their first meet of the season a positive one as the host Grens edged Schaumburg 96-82 in Mid-Suburban League action Thursday.
A trio of victories in the relays help Elk Grove's cause, as did a 1-2 finish in diving from Anna Sprenger (177.6) and Nikki Sugihara (117.45).
Schaumburg's Ingrid Hay was a double winner, taking top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (27.49) and 100 back (1:03.76).
Elk Grove had the top time in the 200 free (Kate Duffy), the 200 IM (Sara Lasovska), the 100 free (Erin Falejczyk) and the 100 breaststroke (Lindsey Hendren).
Conant d. Wheeling: The Cougars produced a dominant effort at Wheeling, winning all three relays in a 130-53 victory.
Cougars senior Sam Wooley led the way with wins in the 200-yard free (2:10.34) and the 100 free (57.13). Teammate Lea Cejvan won the 200 IM (2:24.40) and 500 free (5:52.94), and Kayla Wartman won the 100 fly (1:10.53) and 100 back (1:10.16).
Conant's Bailey Hornstein produced a score of 208.55 to win diving, ahead of Wheeling's Jennifer Zieger (157.30) and Anna Emery (148.60).
Barrington d. Buffalo Grove: The Fillies produced a strong MSL debut, getting double individual wins from Emma Graves (200 IM, 500 free) and Maggie Emary (100 fly, 100 back) in a 144-42 decision at Buffalo Grove.
Barrington won every swimming event and got a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breast from Catherine Kitzman (1:08.46), Olivia Gawronski (1:11.25) and Nicole Barcroft (1:16.24).
Buffalo Grove had a win in diving with Danielle Hausfeld (163.50).
