Police launch late-night search in Volo, Lakemoor after suspicious-person call

Lake County sheriff officials said early this morning there were no suspects in custody as a new manhunt for two people was launched last night in Lakemoor and Volo, a few miles from where Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was killed. The manhunt involving several departments and air patrols centered around routes 12 and 120, and involved at least one subdivision and apartment complex. Slain police officer's wife, four kids greet hundreds in vigil

An outpouring of support for the family of fallen Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was in full force last night as a community gathered with broken hearts on the shore of Nippersink Lake. Fox Lake-area schools to reopen today

Four Fox Lake-area school districts have decided to reopen their schools to students today after consulting with the Lake County sheriff's department and other law enforcement officials. The decision was collectively made by Grant High School District 124, Fox Lake District 114, Gavin District 37 and Big Hollow District 38, according to District 114 Superintendent John Donnellan, who warned of a larger police presence. Wheaton lawyer accused of swindling clients out of $2.26 million

A Wheaton attorney accused of stealing more than $2 million from his clients is being held on $250,000 bail in DuPage County jail. Robert Beck, 48, of the 26W100 block of Embden Lane, is accused of bilking the estates of four former and three current clients of $1 million from July 2011 through January 2015. Full story.

Dist. 300, teachers reach tentative agreement on contract

After six months of bargaining, Community Unit District 300 and its teachers union have reached a tentative agreement on a four-year contract, officials said yesterday. #8220;It was a really good, rich, robust conversation,#8221; Superintendent Fred Heid said. #8220;The focus was never on management rights versus employee rights. Off day comes at good time for slumping Cubs

If ever a team could use a day off, it's the Cubs. They've just gone through some pretty high highs and some low lows. Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Cincinnati Reds capped a stretch that saw them lose two of three each to the Giants and Dodgers on the West Coast, a trip that concluded with a no-hitter by their own pitcher Jake Arrieta.
