Hanover Park honors resident, two officers for saving man from overdose

A Hanover Park resident and two police officers were recognized recently at a village board meeting for their work in saving a citizen's life through the use of the anti-overdose drug Narcan.

On July 7, village resident Phillip Montez saw a man who appeared to be intoxicated, stumbling into traffic near Lake Street and Church Road. Montes immediately notified two Hanover Park officers, Det. Jeff Palace and Officer Sean Bockstadter, who were in the area.

When Palace and Bockstadter found the man, he was unresponsive and suffering from an apparent heroin overdose. The officers administered two doses of Narcan, which reversed the overdose and saved the man's life.

"Mr. Montez is being commended for his quick thinking and civic-minded response to a fellow citizen in danger, which ultimately contributed to saving the subject's life," Hanover Park Village President Rod Craig said.

Craig praised Palace and Bockstadter for their "quick response to the scene and their immediate lifesaving actions to coordinate teamwork which ultimately led to the subject being revived."

Hanover Park police have been trained in Narcan administration since March 2014.
