Reel life: Revisit 'Blade Runner' at Elk Grove Theatre

Film critics notebook:

• The Chicago Film Critics Association presents Ridley Scott's genre-defining tale of future gasp, “Blade Runner,” at 1 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Elk Grove Theatre, 1050 Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village. CFCA Executive Secretary (and Elk Grove Village resident) Erik Childress will introduce the film and conduct a Q&A at the 7 p.m. show. Go to classiccinemas.com or chicagofilmcritics.org.

• Join me and James Bond novelist Raymond Benson when Dann & Raymond's Movie Club opens its eighth season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights. On deck: “Countdown to the Silver Screen's Top 15 Female Sex Symbols.”

Our schedule for 2015: “Coming to America: The Immigrant Experience in the Movies” Oct. 8. “The Greatest Comedy Films, Part 1” Nov. 19. “The Greatest Comedy Films, Part 2” Dec. 10. Go to ahml.org.

• Oh, oh! Paramount Pictures doesn't have much faith in its Sept. 18 release of David Oyelowo's fact-based hostage drama “Captive.” The press screening will be the night before opening, long after regular deadlines for Friday newspapers.

• Bow-Wow! The family film “Marshall's Miracle” was scheduled to play only a week at the York Theatre in Elmhurst and Charlestowne Theatre in St. Charles. It sold so many tickets (the York's No. 1 attended movie) that it's back for one more week at both venues.

The movie, based on Cyndi Willenbrock's book “Marshall the Miracle Dog,” is all about an abused canine that, despite nearly dying, survives to become spokesdog for kindness and anti-bullying messages. Go to classiccinemas.com.

• Dann Gire's Reel Life column runs Friday in Time out!
