Palatine Park District Offers New Stage Combat Class

A new Stage Combat class for adults will be offered by Palatine Park District on Tuesday evenings from 8:15pm to 9:30pm beginning September 22 at Community Center, 250 E. Wood Street, Palatine. The fee for this 12 week program is $100 for residents and $125 for non-residents.

Students ages 18 and up will explore the technical and aesthetic aspects of stage combat. Class will include safely portraying combat onstage within the context of a play with specificity and dramatic power. Students will also come to understand how stage combat fits into the practice of theatre as a whole. All current and previous training in acting, voice, and movement will be integrated.

Class will be taught by Stage Combat Instructor Tim Griffin. An Arlington Heights native, Griffin has been performing and choreographing stage combat for over 25 years for productions at the High School, Collegiate and Professional levels. A graduate of Illinois State University's acclaimed theater program, Tim's combat work has been seen in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, the Studio Theater of Moscow-Southwest, and nearly every Community College in the Chicago area. He has performed/choreographed at the Bristol Renaissance Faire and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, as well as playing the lead roles - while simultaneously serving as Fight Director - for "Hamlet" and "Richard III" at Harper College and Oakton College, respectively.
