Breast Cancer Support Group to highlight therapeutic benefits of art

Elgin, Ill. - The next meeting of the Breast Cancer Support Group at Advocate Sherman Hospital will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Lake Level Conference Room 1 at the hospital, 1425 N. Randall Road, Elgin.

The topic for the August meeting is the therapeutic benefits of art with Cheri Hunt, art instructor from the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva. Hunt will join Mary Gleason, oncology nurse navigator at Sherman Hospital, to discuss self-expression and exploration, which aims to help attendees tap into their creativity, encourage them to let go of stress, and ease cancer-related anxiety and pain.

The support group meets the second Tuesday of every month, and provides support, education and understanding for those with breast cancer, survivors, family members and friends. It also offers participants an opportunity to connect with other survivors, and provides information about treatment options available at Sherman Hospital.
