Football chat scores at Coach's Corner sports grill

With the Bears preparing for their Sept. 13 opener, the college football season kicking off this week and the high school season already underway, more than 125 Daily Herald subscribers were treated to a football feast Tuesday night.

The staff and owners at Coach's Corner Pizzeria & Sports Grill in Elk Grove Village provided the food, service and setting, and several members of the Daily Herald Sports staff led a Q-and-A session to whet the appetites of football fans in the suburbs.

Daily Herald readers exchanged questions with Bears and NFL beat writer Bob LeGere, columnist Mike Imrem, Lake County Sports Coordinator Joe Aguilar and veteran high school sports writer Kevin Schmit.

Following an entertaining discussion about the prospects this season for the Chicago Bears under head coach John Fox, the conversation also focused on suburban high school football, whether the Bears could follow a rebuilding plan like the Cubs, and who are some local players to watch in college football. With the help of a couple high school football coaches in the audience, the conversation also touched on concussion protocols and what's being done for player safety.

Last year more than 8,000 subscribers took part in events sponsored by the Daily Herald's marketing and promotions team.
