$5 million bail set for Indiana man charged in Willowbrook assault

Bail has been set at $5 million for an Indiana man charged in the weekend attack of a woman in her Willowbrook home, DuPage County officials said Wednesday.

DuPage prosecutors said Londale Madison, 31, of South Bend, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, home invasion and armed robbery.

Madison was apprehended Monday and is being held in the St. Joseph County, Indiana, jail where officials expect him to fight extradition to DuPage. If convicted, he faces up to 120 years in prison.

Police said the victim, a woman in her 20s, was loading her car in a driveway around 1:10 p.m. Saturday on the 700 block of 73rd Court when a dark blue Nissan Altima pulled up and a man approached and asked for money. When she refused, officials say, the man forced his way into her home, stabbed her repeatedly and sexually assaulted her.

When police arrived, the woman was at a neighbor's house and was then taken to a hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Prosecutors said Madison fled home to Indiana after the attack. An investigation led by Willowbrook police and the DuPage County Felony Investigation Assistance Team (FIAT) led to Madison's arrest.

"This type of brazen, violent, unprovoked physical and sexual attack, as alleged in this case, is extremely disturbing and will be met with the full force of the law," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "The apprehension of (Madison) is a perfect example of law enforcement agencies working together in the pursuit of justice."

Willowbrook police Chief Mark Shelton said the victim was able to provide information that led them to Madison.

"We are all so very thankful our victim will be recovering. The bravery exhibited and information provided by our victim were exceptional," Shelton said in a written statement. "Knowing Madison is in law enforcement custody is a relief to all citizens."

Madison does not yet have a court date in DuPage County as officials wait to see if he will fight extradition.
