Crystal Lake man turns himself in, charged with aggravated assault

After eluding a police search on Tuesday, a Crystal Lake man turned himself in on Wednesday and was charged with aggravated assault, police said.

Daniel T. Hawkins, 23, of the 1700 block of Somerfield Lane, pointed a handgun at someone else in the house during an argument, according to a police news release.

On Tuesday, police from Crystal Lake and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System's Emergency Services Team secured a perimeter around the house but later determined he was not inside.

Several schools including Indian Prairie, Glacier Ridge and Woods Creek in Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 were placed on a soft lockdown while police investigated.

Hawkins turned himself in on Wednesday, police said in a news release. He was released after posting 10 percent of $1,500 bail.

He will next appear in McHenry County court at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 19.
