Spend Sunday night at the Block Party Taste of Batavia

The annual Block Party Taste of Batavia is back from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6.

Celebrate Labor Day weekend in downtown Batavia with $3 food tastings, a variety of beverages, live music from local bands River City Revival and Patrick James as well as headliner Dick Diamond and the Dusters.

The evening features a classic car cruise night, pie bake off, twist-off and hula-hoop competitions for prizes, bags tournament and kids activities area with free bounce houses.

Start off at the Riverwalk with $3 food tastings from your favorite Batavia restaurants and don't forget to vote for which you think is the "Best on the Block." Then walk across the pedestrian bridge to take a stroll on North River Street and look at the Classic Car Cruise Night, and enjoy more $3 tastings around town in some restaurant locations.

Participating restaurants and groups include:

• Gammon Coach House - Fish tacos

• Range Grill and Tap - Award-winning brisket chili in a potato cup

• Pal Joeys - Pizza slices and meatball sandwiches

• Wilson Street Tavern and Diesels - roast pork sliders and roasted corn

• Neighbors Magazine - soda fountain

• Andre's - tacos

At their location:

• The River's Edge Bar and Grill - Buffalo wings and hot dogs

• Panda - Crab Rangoon and fried rice

• Dominoes - Pizza and pasta

• Bulldogs Cellar Bar and Grill - Philly steak potato skins and fried pickles

"The Block Party is going to be a great night in downtown Batavia full of music and fun," said Jeff Matter, Batavia MainStreet board member, committee chairman and owner of Music Matters School of Music. "This is the chance for everyone to enjoy a block party because downtown is everyone's neighborhood."

Back again this year, River City Church will host a bounce house, face painting, balloons, and a raffle, while on the other side of the river, Batavia Academy of Dance has competitions for prizes.

"This event is a hometown party for the whole family," said Jamie Saam, executive director of Batavia MainStreet. "We hope to get people out to enjoy festivities at the Riverwalk and River Street, but to also hop around town to try out the $3 offerings at the restaurant locations. It's a great way to check out a restaurant they may not frequent."

New this year is the "Bags for Batavia" fundraiser cornhole tournament. Rain or shine, the tournament begins at 4:30 p.m. at 100 N. Island Ave. Prizes with a full 32-team registration will be: $300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place with all other proceeds going back into downtown Batavia community programing. Registration per team is $40 and can be done at (630) 761-3528, by emailing jamie@downtownbatavia.com or stop into the office at 4½ W. Wilson St. in Batavia.

If you think you've got the best pie in town, don't forget to sign up for the Pie Bake-Off for your chance to win cash prize and recognition in Neighbors Magazine, by calling (630) 761-3528.
