Investigation continues into Lindenhurst crash

Lindenhurst police say they're still trying to find out who was responsible for a two-vehicle accident that killed Chris Winiewicz and his 15-year-old daughter, Haylie, of Lindenhurst. The results of toxicology tests are pending, Lake County Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said. Ashley Winiewicz, 16, was driving the family's Kia when it collided with a Nissan pickup truck, police said. She survived. Full story.

Durbin, Schakowsky help celebrate Levee 37:

Federal, state and municipal officials came together to mark the successful completion of the $36 million Levee 37 to help control Des Plaines River flooding in Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Wheeling. All but approximately $100,000 of the project's funding came from federal sources. Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Democratic U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky kicked off the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Green Oaks woman reported missing:

A Green Oaks woman suffering from Alzheimer's was reported missing and endangered, police said. Mitsuko "Mikko" Washinushi, 77, was last seen by family members Monday morning in her home on the 1800 block of White Fence Lane, Green Oaks police said. An individual matching her description was last seen about 2 p.m. walking in the area of North River Road and Guerin Road outside Libertyville. Full story.

Barrington Road ramp to close:

The Illinois Tollway will close the southbound Barrington Road ramp to eastbound I-90 from Sept. 8 through October. The reconstruction, necessary to rebuild the ramp, will wrap up in 2016. The tollway is widening the Jane Addams between Elgin and the Tri-State Tollway. Full story.

Stanley Cup in Elgin:

Lord Stanley's Cup made an appearance at the Elgin Country Club for an exclusive viewing by members and guests Monday. The event was part two of the club's golf outing held last week to raise money for the family of Clint Reif, the Chicago Blackhawks' assistant equipment manager who died last year. Full story.

Concerns about home run derby at Lake Zurich High:

Lake Zurich Unit District 95 board members say they aren't thrilled with the possibility of frequent home runs sailing out of the refurbished softball field. Board members contend the current distance of 185 feet from home plate to the outfield fence in left, center and right fields at Lake Zurich High School is too short. Full story.
