Green Drinks meeting looks at sustainability

Mike Shipley, owner/managing partner of Conscious Cup Coffee in Crystal Lake, will discuss "Working Toward Sustainability" at the next McHenry County Green Drinks meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2.

He will share their journey of bringing sustainable practices to a business and their goals for the future. He is a Green America business member since 2006.

It is also the sixth anniversary of McHenry County Green Drinks.

On the first Wednesday of each month, environmentally-minded people gather upstairs at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, 110 N. Main St. in Crystal Lake, to network and talk about "greening" the future.

On Oct. 7, for "Oaktober," the special guest will be Jim Anderson of the Lake County Forest Preserve District.

On Nov. 7, Thomas Jacks will talk about EarthShare Opportunity, and the topic on Dec. 2 will be "Home Brewing - Holiday Gift Idea."

Additional parking is available at the train station. To be added to the Green Drinks email list, send a note to GreenDrinksMC@gmail.com or visit www.facebook.com/GreenDrinksMcHenryCounty.

Each month there is a short presentation on a different eco-topic, plus displays and demonstrations. Also, information about upcoming eco-events and green products and services is made available. Nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available, plus a featured "green drink."

Green Drinks McHenry County is sponsored by the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen.
