Decals say smoke alarms save lives

Countryside Fire District is using their three Fire Prevention Bureau vehicles to the full extent of promoting fire safety.

The fire district recently purchased a replacement vehicle for the Fire Prevention Bureau and included a decal on the rear window of the truck cap that reads "Smoke Detectors Save Lives, test yours every month."

The decals are highly visible around town and safe to use, as the driver of the vehicle can see through the material from the inside of the truck. The material is perforated window film and was supplied by Suburban Accents Inc.

"This important message that smoke alarms save lives is much more visible and the decals are going to get a lot of miles since there are thousands of people driving through our fire district everyday visiting local businesses, schools and retailers where our fire prevention bureau staff also spends a majority of time," Public Education Coordinator Tony Rodkey said.

The fire district reminds residents to change the battery in smoke alarms when they change their clocks in the fall and spring, have a smoke alarm on every level of the home, including basements, and replace smoke detectors every 10 years, Rodkey added.
