Tuesday morning quarterback

Daily Herald Report

In the trenches with ...

Name: Kevin Killian

School: St. Francis

Year: Senior

Best thing about being an offensive lineman: That's a good question. I would say it's a lot of fun and I would say the offensive linemen are probably the funniest guys you'll meet on a football team, so I really enjoy it.

Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: I guess probably the conditioning is. It's always harder being an offensive lineman, and have all the skill guys running quite a ways ahead of you.

Don't tell my coach that: That's a good one. ... I'd say don't tell him what I had for lunch on Friday before the game. (Crispy chicken sandwich with french fries.)

Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: Marian Central Catholic, because we played them freshman year and sophomore year but now that we're in the (Chicago Catholic League) we don't get to play them anymore.

How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: It's an easy one. I'd go with the Tim Tebow, just kneel down in the end zone. My favorite.

Twitter, Facebook or Instagram: My preference would probably be Twitter. I think it helps you stay connected the best and just know what's going on with everything.

What I like best about my school: Probably the people there, the students and the teachers. They do a good job and make it a good community.

Something about me that would surprise you: I'm a big fan of classic rock. I like the oldies. I like the Beatles, the Who. They're a couple of my favorite bands, I would say.

Other sports I play: I'm considering track and field but I might also play baseball.

Other school activities: I'm part of the Math Team, I do Scholastic Bowl, I'm in the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, and the Student Ministry Team.

Favorite actor: I like Morgan Freeman.

Favorite actress: Probably Jennifer Lawrence.

Favorite athlete: Tim Tebow.

Favorite musician: I would say the Beatles.

The recruit

Scouting DuPage County's top recruits

Name: Mike Panasiuk

School: Lake Park

Year: Senior

Size: Six-foot-four, 290 pounds

Position, uniform number: Defensive lineman, No. 72

College choice: Michigan State University

Why the Lancers love him: As a junior, Panasiuk was named the DuPage Valley Conference's co-Defensive Lineman of the Year after notching 56 tackles including 13 for loss and 4 sacks. His game is based on power, but he's also deceptively quick and excels at both pressuring the quarterback and stuffing the run.

Why colleges love him: "When talking to most recruiters I described him as a 'brawler,'" said Lancers coach Chris Roll. "By the time they got done watching his film and meeting him in person, most defensive line coaches fell in love with him because of this exact trait. They want a guy that will come in right away with strength and drive. That's Mike."

Beast mode: Panasiuk's college decision came from a final list of six colleges that also included Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, Penn State and Wisconsin. At July's prestigious "The Opening" in Oregon, he broke an event record by benching 185 pounds 43 times.

The quote

"Now it looks like it's the middle of November out there."

- Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet looking out upon muddy Duchon Field, which was torn up quite a bit by the end of Saturday's 28-7 rain-soaked season-opening win over Bolingbrook.

The stat

510 yards, 10 touchdowns

The combined passing statistics by Wheaton Academy senior quarterback David Thrasher and Benet junior quarterback Jack Sznajder in respective wins over Walther Christian and St. Laurence.
