5th annual Campton Hills festival to end with a bang

The fifth annual Campton Hills United Fall Fest will finish with a bang - actually, a plethora of explosions - as organizers have booked their first fireworks show to top off the Sept. 12 festival.

The event, conceived to bring folks together after a bitter fight to incorporate, will feature many past favorites such as a large Kid's Corner of inflatable obstacles, a bags tournament and more.

"We've got an exiting new twist. We're going to have full-blown fireworks display at the end, the first full fireworks display in Campton Hills. Every year, we try to add something new," said Mark Malloy, a festival co-organizer, village resident and member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. "We're catching the fireworks folks in the offseason. It's not the Fourth of July."

Malloy said the $6,000 fireworks show was sponsored by the Kari & Kari Farmer's Insurance Agency of Campton Hills and it is one of many family attractions at the festival, which runs 3 to 10 p.m. on the church grounds, 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd., St. Charles.

Malloy said the festival, which was organized and run by more than 125 volunteers, netted about $15,000 last year for the church's missions and local charities.

Organizers hope to surpass that number this year and expect between 1,500 to 2,000 people to drop by the festival, for which there is no admission charge.

Malloy said the festival will also feature a night showing of "The Lego Movie" on an inflatable screen, a visit from a medevac helicopter, a car show and a bicycle skills clinic sponsored by The Bike Rack of St. Charles.
