Elves, superheroes gather at Lake County convention

Elves walked among superheroes and royalty could be seen with dragons when the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake hosted this weekend's Lake Count-I-Con 2015, which was billed as the county's biggest comic, toy, game and art convention.

An estimated 10,000 comic and pop culture fans attended the event, which featured 65,000 square feet of comic books, retro toys and tabletop games, along with more than 200 artists and vendors.

"This is a massive hall of people just like themselves, people who enjoy comic books, video games, music and movie memorabilia," said Joe Prindle, co-creator of Count-I-Con. "This is completely a family event. They can have a great weekend of entertainment and they get the big city comic convention feel just by walking out their back door."

Panel discussions, adult, kids and pet costume contests, costume makeup demonstrations and a celebrity drawing relay took place during the two-day convention.

Some of the local vendors included Jay's Comics, Brass City Games, Gamers HQ, The Gaming Goat and several suburban artists and writers.
