Oakton official named national diversity fellow

Michael D. Anthony, Oakton Community College's chief diversity officer and assistant vice president for Student Affairs, was selected by the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education as one of two 2015-16 NADOHE fellows from a nationwide pool of nominees. The Chief Diversity Officer Fellows Program is a professional leadership program of mentorship. This one-year, academic program provides each fellow with mentoring from a senior level chief diversity officer with at least 10 years of experience, and a secondary mentor with complementary expertise, for guided professional development opportunities and experiences.

• District 15 has named Jennifer Seoane the new principal at Lake Louise School. Seoane, who has been the assistant principal there for three years, joined the district in 2012 after serving as an assistant principal intern at Lincoln School. Prior to that, she was a fifth-grade gifted bilingual teacher in Elgin Area School District U-46 for nearly seven years. She has a degree in history from Whitman College and attended a master's program in elementary science education at Purdue University, and received a master's degree in educational leadership and supervision from National Louis University.

• Streamwood resident Arielle Christopher, Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Social Ambassador Queen 2015, made an appearance at Bartlett's 2015 National Night Out "Picnic in the Park" held at Bartlett Park Aug. 4. Christopher toured the grounds, mingled with guests, posed for photos and met Village President Kevin Wallace. Christopher also posed for a photo with McGruff the Crime Dog, the National Crime Prevention Council's symbol of safety and crime prevention.

• Taylor Zelinsky, a guard at the Bartlett Aquatic Center, has been awarded the International Golden Guard Safety Award, an achievement reserved for those individual lifeguards observed performing their normal job duties while exhibiting behaviors that surpass the expectations off all safety standards in the areas such as swimmer surveillance, professionalism, and vigilance. Only about 1 percent of all lifeguards evaluated receive this honor annually. Zelinsky is a swim instructor, lazy river walking instructor and lifeguard. She has worked at the Bartlett Park District for four years.
