NWSBA holds annual golf outing
Wishing the rain away was successful for the annual Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA) golf outing. Clouds gave way to clear skies and a warm breeze for our golfers on August 19th, 2015. The Schaumburg Golf Club provided a spectacular venue, not only for the golfers, but for the wine tasting, bags tournament and craft beer sampling that was offered.
This year's Co-Chairs were Allen Gabe and Rebecca Zeilenga.
"We are so grateful to all of our sponsors and donors who helped to make this a winning event," said Gabe. "We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and will continue to make this a priority on their calendars next year."
The title sponsors for this event were Attorney's Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. (ATG) and Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE). Mike Rooney from IICLE and staff from ATG were on hand to greet people and enjoy a day of golf. Proper Title, LLC sponsored lunch on the patio. Participants enjoyed the sunshine a lovely lunch and the company of fellow golfers, before the shotgun start.
For those that chose not to golf, activities included a wine tasting & appetizer event sponsored by Bush & Heise, who purchased the wine from Binny's Beverage Depot.
"We are glad to provide another option today for those people that wish to enjoy the outing, but don't necessarily wish to golf," said Brian Heise..
The Bags Tournament and craft beer tasting that took place on the patio, under a beautiful gazebo, was also a hit. Rebecca Zeilenga, who Co-Chaired the event was thrilled at the number of participants. "This event/game gave a lot of people that might not have ordinarily attended a golf outing something fun to participate in. JP Title sponsored the bags tournament and craft beer tasting.
This year's mixed winners foursome included Allen Gabe, Liz Maynard, Ron Neroda and Demian March, with a score of 58. The women's winning team, with a score of 66 was Sara Earleywine, Deborah Waltz, Susan Kim & Julie Suh. The men's winning team was David Dominguez, Chris Poulsen and Phil Terrello.
Other contests at various holes added to the fun and excitement of the day. Millie Palmer and Chris Sobey won a trophy for the longest putt, while Robert Zutzow and Jessica Oefelein drove the longest drive of the day. Larry Manassa and Ann O'Connell made it closest to the pin, and Patrick Owens was closest to the squiggly line.
Ronald F. Wittmeyer, Jr., President, welcomed everyone to the dinner portion of the evening, and thanked the generosity of the title sponsors, IICLE and ATG, as well as all of the other sponsors and donors. He then introduced the Golf Outing Committee of Allen Gabe, Rebecca Zeilenga and Brian Heise.
Allen Gabe, as master of ceremonies, also thanked the sponsors and participants.
"We could not have such a successful event without everyone pulling together."
Participants then wound down the day with cocktails and a dinner, sponsored by Smokeball. While enjoying the ambiance of the Schaumburg Golf Club, winners of the day's raffle were drawn. Monica Gurgiolo won a $120 gift card to Tuscan Market and a Schaumburg Golf Club foursome; Gary Newland walked away with a $100 gift card to Ditka's Restaurant, $50 Moretti's gift card and a Schaumburg Golf Club foursome; Scott Barbar will be using a $100 gift card at Salsa 17; Glenn Szurgot won a foursome at Eaglewood, along with a $120 Tuscan Market card and $50 Moretti's gift card; Scott Zambo won a foursome at Poplar Creek Golf Course and a Seasons 52 gift card. The grand prize of a wagon filled with premium liquor and $500 cash went to George Bellas.
Ironically, the raffle prize for a one year free membership to the NWSBA went to none other than Ronald F. Wittmeyer, Jr., our current President!
Morici, Figlioli & Associates donated two Chicago Black Hawk items that provided an impromptu live auction. Jessica Oefelein won an autographed Bobby Hull Jersey, and Mike Rooney, IICLE, won an autographed Bobby Hull Hockey Stick.
With 120 golfers and 180 dinner guests, the event was chalked up as a success.
