Why is Chicago a travel hub?

Learn why Chicago is America's premier travel hub at the presentation "Terminal Town: Chicago's Airports, Bus Depots, Train Stations, and Steamship Landings from 1939 - to Present Day" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 600 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn.

Speaker Joseph P. Schwieterman is director of DePaul University's Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development and author of the book "Terminal Town." Admission is $5 at the door; students younger than 18 are admitted for free.

Schwieterman will speak about great icons of transportation, including Chicago's Union Station and Dearborn Station, as well as Midway and O'Hare airports. He also will discuss lesser-known and long-gone terminals throughout the metropolitan region.
